Street riding is a constant search for developing hazards. Use lane position, following distance and an escape path so one driver’s mistake does not become your emergency.

How to practice it
Search
Scan well ahead, to both sides and in mirrors. Focus on intersections, driveways, blind spots, surface changes and debris.
Evaluate
Ask which hazards could enter your path, what traction is available and where you could safely move.
Execute
Communicate with lights and lane position, adjust speed, increase space and be ready to brake or swerve.
Stay visible
Avoid lingering beside vehicles. Choose a lane position that improves your view while preserving an escape route.
Practice checklist
- Name potential hazards on a familiar low-speed route.
- Keep at least a three-second following cushion and add more in poor conditions.
- Cover the controls near high-risk intersections.
